Ice Baths in Bristol - Ice Baths for the South West's Fittest City
Bristol's fitness culture runs deep and slightly off-beat - harbourside runners, Ashton Court mountain bikers, a rugby city with a triathlon problem. Cold water therapy fits the Bristol pattern of taking training seriously without taking it corporately.
It is also one of England's better cities to own a tub in: Victorian terraces with proper gardens, a mild South West climate that never punishes outdoor kit, and a strong sea-swimming culture an hour away at Clevedon that a home tub keeps topped up midweek.
Clevedon cold, without the M5
The Marine Lake at Clevedon is the South West's cold-water cathedral, but it is a weekend trip, not a Tuesday. A garden tub in Bishopston or Bedminster holds the researched 11–15°C on tap. The evidence for recovery and mood does not care whether the cold water has a view.

What is the best starter setup for a Bristol terrace garden?
With garden space, the Performance Bundle (£899) - Plunge 320 tub with lid, Chill Core 500 chiller and a wireless thermometer - is the setup we recommend. The Starter Bundle (£649) pairs the Plunge 80 with a Chill Core 300, and tub-only starts at £69 if you want to test the habit with ice first.
Are ice baths good for mood as well as recovery?
There is genuinely promising evidence: controlled cold immersion studies report increased alertness and improved mood after immersion. We cite the specific studies - and their limits - in our cold exposure, mood and energy guide.
