Scotland · Delivered to your door
Glasgow does not need convincing about cold water - Scots have been swimming lochs and sea pools for generations, and the city's gym and combat-sport scene has adopted ice baths as standard recovery kit. What a home tub adds is doing it on your own schedule, warm(ish), dry and two steps from your kettle.
The west of Scotland's mild, wet maritime climate is genuinely good ice-bath territory: tap water starts cooler than in the south of England, so your chiller works less hard and an unpowered tub stays cold longer between sessions.
Loch Lomond is under an hour away and plenty of Glaswegians take their cold there. A back-court or garden tub is the weekday version: the same cold, controlled to the 11–15°C the research supports, with none of the variables - currents, access, changing in the rain - that make a loch dip an event rather than a routine.

In winter, often yes - Scottish mains water can sit near the researched range for months. The chiller earns its keep the rest of the year and holds an exact temperature rather than a lucky one. Starting tub-only and adding a Chill Core later is a perfectly sensible route.
They are different tools. Open water gives you the wildness; a tub gives you controlled temperature, known water quality and zero travel. The recovery evidence is built on controlled immersion at 11–15°C, which is what a tub delivers.
